Athens may not have had as good of an army as Sparta but in the end cultural and society advancements are more important than having the best army in the world. All these reasons and more just shows how much better Athens is than Sparta. Two of the most powerful cities’ in the ancient times, Sparta and Athens were alike and different.

Sparta has much defense against invading forces. In fact, Spartan warriors are known for their skill, bravery, and professionalism. Also, with only 300 men, the Spartan warriors managed to severely damage a whole Persian army before falling. This means that Sparta offers much.

The Athenian military was structured much differently than Sparta's. Their military grew through voluntary enlisting. They didn't have the ground troop numbers that Sparta had, but their navy was much more dominant. Sparta realized that they couldn't match Athens impressive navy, so Archidamus delayed the battle and worked on extending Sparta's.

In conclusion, though both Athens and Sparta were parts of ancient Greece, their societies were totally different from one another. Despites of being breeding machine to men, women of Sparta seemed to enjoy more freedom and hold higher level of right than women of Athens in most life factors.
